OHH Commissioner "Hangs up the skates" and has new passion - NASCAR.........

(Parma - 10/02/2009-AP) The long time legend of Cleveland hockey, OHH Commissioner Karl Schmidt has decided to call it quits after approximately 23 years of skating in the Cleveland area. "It was a tough decision", remarked Karl Schmidt, "but it was something that I have thought about doing for the past couple of years, and now is the time - when I am the top of my game." Although he did hang up the skates, he didn't hang up the love of the sport and continues to start up and watch the OHH game-play every week. "Until a new commissioner steps forward and takes over the helm, I will continue to set up the play every week and monitor the teams" says Schmidt. Although the hockey world will miss the often cantankerous old man on the ice, it still has the satisfaction knowing that he is still involved with the sport and the league.

His new passion is NASCAR and has just completed an application for entering the 2010 NASCAR season with the creation of a new race team, OHH-Racing, having a tentative $12 million dollar deal locked up with Viagara for racing hood sponsorship next season. "The OHH Hockey Club will pick up the other $8 million needed to sponsor the race car and I expect the player fees to go up a little bit next year", Schmidt said.

After having run 24 laps at Daytona Motor Speedway at an average speed of 154 mph, Schmidt says he is ready to take the next step and become a race car owner with OHH-Racing for the 2010 NASCAR season.

We will continue to build the race cars here in Strongsville OH and shuttle them to the races via OHH-Racing Haulers. (We are looking for experienced rig drivers.) Schmidt and another driver to be named in the immediate future will share driver duties at the tracks throughout the 2010 NASCAR Season. "We are hoping to get into the top 12 drivers for the race to the (Sprint) Cup" says Schmidt, "but our immediate goal is to win a couple or races to build up owners points for the standings."

Looking for Subs (hockey players).......
OHH looking for a few good hockey players.

Interested in playing hockey with one of the more organized leagues in Cleveland? Tired of the "Hack-Me Whack-Me" North America Hockey? Are you between the ages of 30 and 55? Want a good workout?

One and a half hours for $20, (that's right- $20 BIG ONES) and have fun with a good bunch of guys in a "no-hack" league? The OHH is looking to broaden it's base of substitute players. After being called up, just look for your name on the roster posted on the dressing room door, get a jersey, and hit the ice. Interested? Please click here or on our "Request to Play Hockey" button located in the navigation bar and get the ball rolling. Go and sharpen up your skates because you will be called up into action eventually.

We have had ex Lumberjacks, ex Cleveland Barons Wayne Muloin (California Golden Seals), ex Buffalo Sabres and numerous (older) guys skate with us from the Lethbride Broncos, Brandon Wheat Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers, Sudbury Wolves, London Knights, Bellingham Bulls (Washington) and the Peterbourough Petes, just to name a few.

Anyway, if you are interested, please click below for a Request To Play Hockey. Our Secretary Brittany, is just waiting for you to reply............
